The first settlers to move into this area were Hispanic families from southern Arizona. Two separate settlements were formed and later came together to form a community. Tempe was a small agricultural community through most of its history. But after World War 2, it grew as veterans moved to the city. This area had a small teachers college that eventually began to thrive, and in 1958, became Arizona State University.

There are many great schools in Tempe. A few are Tempe Preparatory Academy, Connolly Middle School, McClintock High School, and of course, Arizona State University.

Some of the most popular things to do in this area are going to Mill Avenue District, the Sea Life Aquarium, Tempe Beach Park, AZ Heritage Center, and the Desert Botanical Gardens. If you are up for a hike, go on the trail to the Hole in the Rock in Papago Park!
